St. James

Location:

115 Askin Street, London, ON

Since St. James Westminster church was built in 1876, I had my doubts as to how much of the original building had survived (Eqbal, 2021). To my amazement, the structure was materially unchanged. Out of curiosity I changed the photograph I took (Figure 5) to a black and white filter to better compare with the historic Figure 6 photograph. This brought an eeriness to the photograph, something I am still trying to wrap my head around. Grainger (2002) comments that many of these vanished villages disappeared “to adapt to changing times, changing times, and changing needs (Grainger, 2002). What I find interesting is that although the village is not what it used to be, the church survived - over 140 years! This speaks volumes to faith withstanding the test of time and not succumbing to change.
